October in the Studio: Back to My Signature Style

October is shaping up to be a busy month in the studio—in the best way.

I'm currently working on two projects I'm especially excited about: a new stationery-focused collection and my 2027 calendar.

Back to My Signature Style

For my next collection, I'm not looking for an entirely new direction.

Instead, I'm returning to the things I've always loved creating—bold florals, playful shapes, interesting color combinations, and modern patterns—and asking myself how I can make them feel fresh again.

I've realized that developing a signature style isn't about creating the same thing over and over. It's about having a recognizable point of view and allowing it to evolve.

So that's exactly what I'm doing.

I'm sketching new motifs, experimenting with color and thinking more intentionally about how the artwork could live beyond a repeat pattern.

Because this collection is being designed with stationery in mind, I'm exploring individual illustrations and motifs alongside patterns—artwork that could become stickers, notebooks, planners, greeting cards, washi tape and other little paper goods.

And I have to admit...I'm having a lot of fun imagining the possibilities.

On My Desk: The 2027 Calendar

I'm also beginning work on the 2027 Shabya Reid Art calendar.

There's something I love about seeing twelve pieces of artwork come together to tell a story across an entire year.

I'll be choosing artwork, refining the color story and thinking about how each month can feel distinct while still belonging to the same collection.

More on that soon!
